Precision Fill Mini: Load Cell Replacement

The Precision Fill Mini may need a load cell replacement due to shipping damage. This guide explains how to replace it.

Introduction

Due to certain early production Precision Fill Mini units being equipped with an insufficient
support bracket or rare cases of mishandling during shipping, the load cell in the Precision Fill
Mini may need to be replaced. This guide covers removal and installation of the replacement
load cell.

This guide covers opening the machine, removing the mechanical connection for the load cell,
removing the electrical connection for the load cell, and installation of the new load cell.
Note: Before starting, please make sure you have removed the shipping support braces from
the top and bottom of the machine. The machine may indicate “ADOFL” error when the
shipping braces are in place.

Required Tools

Mandatory:
○ 3mm hex wrench
○ Snips for zip ties
○ Medium flat head screwdriver

Recommended:
○ 3mm or T30 short hex key screwdriver bit
○ Small electrician’s/glasses repair flat head screwdriver

Left/Right directions in this document are referenced to you facing the front of the machine; the right side of the machine will be the side to your right when you are facing the machine as if you were operating it.

Step 1: Access the load cell

Unplug the machine and remove the access panels from the left and right of the machine.

From the right side of the machine, identify the load cell

Step 2: Remove the load cell

Towards the front of the machine, the load cell is attached to the weighing bucket with
two machine screws. Use feel to identify their location. Using your 3mm hex key, loosen
both the left and right machine screws:

Once the machine screw is loosened, you can use a small 3mm or T30 screwdriver
bit to remove the machine screw more quickly.

At the back of the load cell, there are two additional machine screws holding the load
cell in place. Identify and remove these load cells.

Step 3: Remove the cable

Remove the stainless steel electrical cover at the back right of the inside of the machine.

Follow the orange cable attached to the load cell to where it connects to the screen at
the front of the machine. Snip any zip tie securing the orange cable in place, being
careful to not cut or damage any of the cables.

Using a screwdriver or something that will work as leverage, bend the two metal wire
guides out so the orange cable can be slipped out of them.

Gently remove the green electrical plug attached to the orange wiring from the back of
the screen.

Carefully feed the orange cable and plug through the machine to free the load cell.

The load cell should now be free.

Step 4: Connecting the new load cell

If necessary, remove the two mounting brackets from your old load cell and install them
on your new load cell.

Remove the green plug from your load cell and wire it on to your new load cell,
following the below wiring orientation.

  •  4 wires on your load cell.
  • 5 wires on your load cell: Follow the same as for 4 wires, except tape and ignore
    the yellow wire.

  • 6 wires on your load cell:

Note: If your replacement load cell includes a yellow wire, this wire can be ignored and
either trimmed back or capped.

Place the load cell near it’s install location and feed the orange cable back through the
cable pass through (below the stainless steel cover) and two wire support mechanisms

● Bend the wire support mechanisms back into place and secure wire with zip ties.

● Carefully plug the load cell back into the screen.

● Install the load cell to the machine using the two rear-most machine screws, but do not
torque them down completely.

● Attach the weighing hopper to the load cell using the front two machine screws, but do
not torque them down completely.

● Orient the load cell and weighing hopper so they are lined up with the vibrating feeder
and coffee bypass chute and have good clearance all around.

● Torque all four machine screws tightly.

● Reinstall access panels.

Step 5: Factory Reset

First, a factory reset is recommended, and in some instances may be required. Please contact
your TBA for instructions. To ready your machine for this process, please follow the instructions
below:

  1. Power cycle the machine
  2. Check that the machine is in the 'stop' state. You can check this on the home screen -
the button on the bottom right should say 'start' (see page 20 of the Precision Fill User
Manual, HMI Function Explanations / Home)
    1. If the button says 'Stop', press it.
  3. Move forward with factory reset procedure outlined by your TBA

To complete your load cell replacement, calibration is required. Please refer to the Calibration
section of the Precision Fill User Manual.

After calibration is completed, recipes can be tuned and your machine should be ready for use.
