Pearl Mini: Compressed Air Demands

Introduction

The Pearl Mini color sorter is a high precision, high air demand product. It requires a
constant supply of clean, dry air to ensure ejectors open at the proper time, mechanical parts
stay functional and in good repair, and so the optical sorter does not pause sorting due to low
air pressure.

Most air compressors that can support the Pearl Mini will require regular maintenance
and need to comply with local regulations. As a result, Sovda recommends you work with a
local air compressor specialist to optimize the unit you purchase and minimize your service
downtime.

Filtration & Drying

Many air compressors come equipped with a refrigerant dryer. However, they can also be
installed in line after the air compressor if yours does not have one equipped. Make sure the
dryer you select can handle the pressure and volume requirements listed in the table in
section.

Operating the Pearl Mini without a refrigerant dryer treated air will cause ejectors to stick
and cause erratic sorting. Over time, internal components will corrode and require
replacement.

You must have compressed air filters installed before connection to the Pearl Mini.
Small particulate can affect the seal of ejectors and function of internal components,
resulting in increased rejection of good coffee and premature failure of parts.

Recommended filtration (or equivalent):
● Type C (5 micron): before refrigerant air dryer
● Type T: 1ppm oil filter, after refrigerant dryer
● Type A: .1ppm oil filter, after Type T filter
● Type X: .1 micron water separator, after Type A filter
● Type F: .3 micron particle filter, after Type X

Compressed Air Demands

The Pearl Mini requires the following air supply:

● 6cfm (170l/m) minimum continuous supply
● 72.5psi/ 0.5mpa constant operating pressure
